Marine-grade Core

Legno Bastone uses a unique process to create hardwood floors that will withstand environments that other hardwood floors can’t.

They do this by using a cold-press method of assembly and cross-strand strength. The core of a Legno Bastone floor is made with either 7 layers or 11 layers of marine-grade Baltic Birch plywood that is laid in opposite directions to increase the durability and strength of the substrate. Additionally, the moisture-resistant adhesive within this substrate remains intact because it is not warmed. They can accomplish this by using a pneumatic press to slowly push down the layers of the substrate thus, releasing any bubbles and pinholes. Other hardwood flooring manufacturers heat up the adhesive because it’s a quick and cost-effective method of manufacturing a hardwood floor. The problem is that when the adhesive dries, it dries quickly thus, causing bubbles and pinholes to remain within the substrate. This is where water and moisture gather, and this is a major cause of hardwood flooring damage.

Most hardwood flooring manufacturers use polyurethane, lacquer, oil or aluminum oxide to protect their floors. All these products contain dangerous chemicals. Polyurethane is the most common protection used for hardwood however, it contains isocyanates, which are carcinogenic. Prolonged direct exposure to polyurethane and its fumes may cause long-term respiratory issues and, in some cases, lung cancer. Legno Bastone uses a unique and patented all-natural and UV-cured hard-wax oil protective finish. This is the most durable protective finish available for a hardwood floor. The hard-wax oil is much more dense than other protective materials thus, it penetrates the hardwood and offers more protection than most. A double layer of hard-wax oil is applied to each floor with it being UV-cured to ensure maximum durability. This protective finish offers several benefits. It helps to enhance the already beautiful colors and finishes. It also offers maximum protection against staining, wear and scratches.
